Updated Background Report Process

Report Information

  • All FBI reports expire ninety (90) days after the report date of issuance.
  • HSREA recommends that students wait to make their fingerprinting appointment until after completing the
  • Kentucky Prelicense program. This will ensure that KREC receives a new report.
  • The KREC cannot issue a license without a valid FBI report.
  • You have sixty (60) days to apply for your license after successfully passing the exam.

* KREC refers to the Kentucky Real Estate Commission – the state regulatory authority for real estate licensees.

Exam Information

"Kentucky state laws stipulate that a person may not act as a real estate sales associate or broker without first obtaining a license issued by the Kentucky Real Estate Commission. To be licensed, you must pass an examination to confirm that you have attained at least a minimum level of knowledge regarding the principles, practices, statutes, and regulations relating to real estate."
