Real Estate Agent
The most obvious job you can pursue with a real estate license is that of a real estate agent! Real estate agents have many responsibilities. These include:
- Listing and maintaining properties that are for sale.
- Arranging open houses for sellers.
- Helping sellers find qualified buyers.
- Pairing buyers with a home that meets their needs and is within their budget.
- Showing buyers properties.
- Negotiating the price with the seller.

Realtor®
The first steps to become a Realtor® are the same as for being an agent, but you must also take a few additional steps after earning your licensure. You must join the National Association of Realtors, which has a few extra character requirements. You also need to pay a fee to join and remain in good standing.
Real Estate Broker
If you're looking for an additional challenge and the opportunity for increased income, consider becoming a real estate broker. It requires extra training and licensure. Real estate brokers do everything an agent does, plus they manage real estate agents and receive a percentage of their sales.
Other related jobs that you could pursue include:
- Real Estate Appraiser.
- Home inspector.
- Real estate marketing specialist.
- Mortgage Broker.
- Property Manager.
How Do I Get My Real Estate License?
To earn your real estate license, you must be at least 18 years old and hold a high school diploma or its equivalent, such as a GED. You also need to pass an FBI criminal background check. In Kentucky, you also need six real estate credit hours from an accredited college or 96 real estate classroom hours, which we offer at HomeServices Real Estate Academy. From there, you need to pass the state licensure exam.
Our courses are available online, in-person, on weekends, in the evenings, and during the week, allowing us to meet your needs and accommodate your time constraints. We know life isn't a one-size-fits-all bag.
