Tips for Working with Buyers

1. Talk to your buyers about the general buying process.

For some customers, this may be their first time going through the home buying process. When you first meet your buyers, it will make a world of a difference if you take the time to explain to them, from start to finish, the process and steps toward walking into their new home. Understanding the process will help your buyers feel comfortable as steps are made in the direction toward closing - and it will make them feel confident in recommending you to their friends and family.

2. Get to know your buyers!

One of the best things you can do as a real estate agent working with buyers is to get to know them on a personal level. Knowing them well has the ability to help you anticipate their needs, find them suitable homes to look at, and allow them to feel comfortable coming to you with questions, concerns, or ideas. Before buyers are clients, they are people, and making them feel as such will only improve and strengthen your working relationship.

3. Actively listen to your clients their wants and needs, especially as it relates to layout and location.

This may seem obvious, but thoughtfully and actively listening to your clients’ needs and wants for their home will help you find the right place for them. Whether they want to prioritize a certain neighborhood, a designated school district, or a style of home, it is important that you understand their goals and non-negotiables as you begin working with them.

4. Respect their time.

While real estate is your full-time job, buyers are likely fitting showings and meetings into their regular lives. You can respect their time by being punctual and intentional with your time with buyers so they feel seen, heard, and confident in their journey.

5. Offer a touching gift for their new home.

Helping your buyers step into their new home is an incredible feeling. As real estate agents, it is thoughtful and appreciated to do something nice for tour buyers. Whether you purchase them a nice bottle of champagne, flowers, or something more personal to them, gifting your buyers with a housewarming gift is a best practice in the real estate industry that makes the transition memorable and leaves a lasting impression.
